About Stephanie
Stephanie Burl, LPC, NCC, is the Family Support Coordinator for NAMI KDK. With over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, she brings an empathetic approach shaped by her work with underserved communities facing barriers and limited resources. Her background blends youth work, family advocacy, and community collaboration. support systems and fostering resilience within the communities she serves.
Experiences
Outside of her work with NAMI KDK, Stephanie is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who provides compassionate and evidence-based therapy to individuals, couples, and families, ages 12 and up. She is passionate about working with adolescents, helping them navigate the unique challenges of identity, relationships, mental health, and personal growth.
Stephanie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Northern Illinois University and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision.
As a clinician, Stephanie utilizes an integrative therapeutic approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. She specializes in working with adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, and life transitions, guiding them toward emotional well-being and self-empowerment.
Beyond her clinical work, Stephanie is a passionate mental health advocate, particularly within Black communities. She collaborates with churches and local organizations to provide discussions that address the unique mental health challenges faced by Black individuals and families.
With her doctoral degree, Stephanie’s mission is to teach, supervise, and mentor the next generation of counselors, with a special focus on supporting and empowering BIPOC counselors. She believes that increasing representation and cultural competence in the mental health field is crucial to ensuring that diverse communities receive the quality and inclusive care they deserve.
In her free time, Stephanie enjoys decorating, spending quality time with family and friends, attending concerts and comedy shows, and exploring new restaurants.
